We moved from CT working in a Law Firm and State Office, to ME to become farmers! The most we ever had were Domestic house birds, cats, dogs, fresh & saltwater fish tanks and an Iguana!
I am a researcher, so I spent a year researching goats while we added Chickens and Ducks to our farm. Once we were comfortable that we could raise goats, we bought 3 doling's and started our for "real farm". Currently we have more than 16 Does, 5 breeding Bucks and a bunch of babies getting ready for new homes.
Having these three new bundles suddenly had me thinking about the opportunities and possibilities of what we could do with goat milk.
It took me 6 years of breeding and researching until I finally landed on a FB page with an offer to teach me how to SAFELY make goat milk soap! From that first class I knew is was hooked.
What started out as a hobby rapidly became a business and resulted in more classes for making lotions, lip balms, bath bombs, how to have a goat milk soap business, web page design and more!
I also make cheeses, fudge and caramels now that I can sell in my town as I applied for town Sovereignty for sale of my food / candy products from the farm in Bowerbank, and I am now in the process of licensing my kitchen to enable the sale of these products in local businesses and online.
This is a never-ending adventure and one that I am so thankful I started. Making and using natural, chemical free, clean products is extremely rewarding and knowing that my customers love using it as much as I love making it keeps me going.
